Experience Heritage brings history to life, recreating the past and helping audiences experience “what might it have been like?” through interactive digital storytelling. With backgrounds in heritage as well as digital media creation, they translate complicated tech speak into interpretation solutions that are suitable for the specific needs of heritage environments.
Using mobile applications, 3D models and interactive virtual experiences, they help make heritage more accessible to more people. Through archival research, they have digitally reconstructed the now ruined Slingsby Castle, providing animations and immersive VR experiences to show audiences what it once would have looked like in its full glory.
Other projects include the creation of 3D models through the process of photogrammetry (or using a series of photos to create a 3D model of an object or structure). At the National Trust’s Nostell Priory, they used this technique to create a digital version of a historic dolls house, providing a digital animation for the exhibit which illustrated the movement of the artefact’s doors.

They also use these technologies to help audiences understand heritage in places where physical interpretation is not the easiest to provide. They have developed a heritage trail mobile application which engages users with stories of the Tang Hall suburb’s historical places, characters and green spaces. They are also currently developing an augmented reality trail app which will reveal virtual overlays of lost or hidden features around York in order to better engage audiences with the historic city’s many stories throughout time.

Experience Heritage started out of a passion to better understand and more deeply experience history and their passion shows! In 2020, they advanced to the national finals in the Santander Universities Emerging Entrepreneur’s competition and in 2021 they were shortlisted for the Most Innovative Tech Award by Startup Magazine’s Hustle Awards.
