Offering four workshops at this year’s Heritage Trust Network Conference, take a look at the great line up offered by AHF and their team.
1pm: Community Shares as a means of funding and engagement
Join Isla McCulloch, Community Shares Standards Programme Manager at Coops UK and Adam Hitchings, AHF’s Wales Support Officer to gain an understanding of community shares.
The workshop will explain what are community shares, how they can be used to engage with and empower communities, which organisations can develop and issue community share offers and how they can be used for historic building projects, often as part of a package of funding including grants and other social investment.

2pm: Place-making in Rural Communities
Join Rita Harkin, AHF’s Northern Ireland Support Officer, to consider what ingredients are required for successful rural placemaking, and how the voluntary, community, social enterprise, public and private sectors can collaborate creatively to make it happen.
Rita will explain how Project Viability Grants and Development Grants and advice from AHF can help groups to establish core community needs and identity sustainable uses for underused heritage, which can help grow the rural economy.
She will be joined by Teresa Canavan from Rural Action and Derek Browne, Social Enterprise adviser with Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council and Anne Monaghan, Project Manager at Ederney Community Development Trust (ECDT). They will look at the issues and challenges facing rural communities and the need to adopt a business-like approach in rural placemaking.
3pm: Ask the Funder: AHF support for your project
The AHF supports projects across all four UK nations – and can help in different ways at different points in your projects life.
From advice at the earliest stages, grants to help test viability or develop a detailed project, to capital grants, crowdfunding options and short or longer term social investment during or after capital works, come hear about the latest grant and loan programmes we can offer, and ask us questions about our funding and your projects!

4pm: Environmental Sustainability and Historic Buildings: How to get started
The climate challenge we face has never been greater. Many of us are increasingly aware that we need to ensure our organisations can operate responsibly and sustainably into the future. Understanding how we can champion this movement while being sensitive to the conservation and adaptation needs of historic buildings can be a challenge. This workshop is designed to demonstrate how a heritage building can be a sustainable one, and the key questions to ask ourselves when caring for, conserving and adapting our traditional and historic buildings.
Join Hannah Mann (Fit for the Future Project Officer) and Kelcey Wilson-Lee (Head of Programmes and Impact, AHF) for this informal session to ask questions and share stories. We will talk through how funders are trying to encourage – and sometimes require – projects to engage with environmental sustainability, and what funders are looking for applicants to demonstrate. And we will share tips and tools to help your project get started in the most sustainable way

Rebuilding Heritage – An Introduction, 3pm and 3.30pm

Rebuilding Heritage is a free support programme, funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, to help the heritage sector respond to the ongoing impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. It will build confidence in a time of crisis by supporting individuals and organisations to overcome immediate challenges and plan for a sustainable future.
Join Vanessa to hear all about this new programme from The Heritage Alliance and how it can help your organisation and project. This will be an interactive session where you will have the opportunity to ask questions about the support on offer and how to apply, and you will also be able to provide feedback on the current offer and let the Rebuilding Heritage team know what kind of support and training that you would like to see offered by the programme in the future. The workshop will be run twice.
Measuring Success: Capturing the impacts of your heritage project

We can talk you through the basics – Distilling your vision into key aims and objectives, making a plan for evaluation, and turning that plan into a process which is deliverable and ultimately valuable.
CFP have delivered national evaluation programmes and research for the National Lottery Heritage Fund. We’ve worked with over 70 wide-ranging heritage projects nationally to helping clients refine their evaluation framework, train their staff and volunteers and support them in delivering a meaningful evaluation.

Addressing VAT in your heritage project
